Bio
Julie McCracken
Scenic Artist, Educator, Craftsperson

For the past five seasons, I have served as the Head of the Scenic Art Department at the Florida Repertory Theatre, where I’ve led the visual transformation of the stage through large-scale painting, foam sculpting, faux finishes and puppet creation. My career in the visual arts is rooted in a deep love for theatrical craftsmanship—turning raw materials into immersive environments that tell a story.

Before my time in the theatre, I honed my eye for detail in post-production television, an experience that taught me the precision and technical discipline required of a professional artist. However, my most rewarding work in recent years hasn't been on the stage, but in the shop—mentoring and training interns. Guiding emerging artists as they develop their technical skills sparked a long-held passion for education that I am now turning into a lifelong career.

Currently, I am pursuing a Master’s degree in Art Education at Florida State University. My work focuses on integrating professional artistic practices with critical pedagogy. I am dedicated to fostering a classroom environment that prioritizes the personal and artistic growth of every student. By exploring the intersection of visual culture and the world around them, I aim to empower students to find their unique voices and develop the critical thinking skills necessary to navigate and contribute to their communities.
